How much does a dental CE mission trip from Maryland to Kenya or Ghana cost?
Trips start at $3,300 and most Maryland volunteers pay between $3,500 and $3,900 depending on trip length and extensions. That covers accommodation, ground transport in Kenya or Ghana, most meals, park fees, mission supplies, and your CE documentation. International airfare from BWI, DCA, or IAD is booked separately — round-trip fares to Nairobi or Accra typically run $900–$1,500 depending on season. Dulles (IAD) often has the most direct international routing to Nairobi.
Is my Maryland dental license valid in Kenya or Ghana?
You practice under a temporary humanitarian authorization coordinated by our in-country partners and the local ministry of health. We handle that paperwork for you — you simply provide a copy of your active Maryland dental license from the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners, your CV, and a passport scan at least eight weeks before departure.
Do these CE hours count toward my Maryland dental license renewal?
Yes. Maryland dental professionals are required to complete continuing education hours per renewal cycle, and documented mission participation can contribute up to 12+ CE hours. We issue a certificate detailing clinical hours, procedures, and supervision that you retain for Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners audit purposes. Always confirm current CE category requirements directly with the Board, as course-category rules are periodically updated.
Which Maryland and DC-area airports do volunteers fly from?
BWI (Baltimore/Washington International) is the most convenient for Baltimore and Central Maryland volunteers. IAD (Dulles) in northern Virginia is often the best international routing for Montgomery County, Bethesda, and Rockville practices. DCA (Reagan National) handles domestic connections into the international hubs. Our travel desk sends recommended itineraries specific to your departure airport so your group lands together in Nairobi or Accra.
How many days off from my Maryland practice will I need?
Plan on 8 to 12 days door-to-door, which typically means six to eight clinic days away when you use a weekend on each end. Many Baltimore and Annapolis practice owners schedule CE missions in November or March — historically quieter periods for elective care — to minimize disruption for their patients.
What dental equipment and supplies are provided on the mission?
Portable dental chairs, compressors, handpieces, sterilization equipment, anesthetic, restorative materials, extraction instruments, scaling instruments, and PPE are all supplied on site in Kenya and Ghana.
